ACCOUNTABILITY

Corrections policy.

Verbal corrects substantive factual errors and tells readers what changed.

When an article contains a material error, the text is corrected and an editor’s note describes the original problem and the correction. Minor spelling, grammar and formatting repairs that do not change meaning may be made without a note.

Updates

New reporting is labeled as an update when it materially expands or changes an article. The visible update date and structured publication data are kept consistent.

Requesting a review

A useful correction request should identify the article, the exact disputed passage, the proposed correction and supporting primary documentation. Verbal evaluates evidence rather than removing accurate reporting solely because it is unwelcome.

Record

Published correction notes remain attached to the relevant article so readers can understand its history.
